A partridge in a pear tree

It's December 1st and I feel like I can officially appreciate the season again! Taking a trip to Leavenworth this weekend to start off Christmas time season. I hope it snows! On Friday there's a caroling competition called the Great Figgy Pudding Competition at 6. Ice skating...I loved being in Hawaii last year but I'm glad to be in Seattle.

Lately I've been feeling busy busy busy. Thanksgiving was great! I gotta say I was a little sad that Allie and I came home to an empty house. I watched part of the Macy's parade alone. First Thanksgiving without mom's Thanksgiving but also first Thanksgiving with a significant other's fam. I feel so welcome :) I wish my parents were as obliging. Not that they are mean or anything. I guess its what comes with strict upbringing plus being the baby girl. Sigh. (Don't worry, Marc, my parents like you). This is also the first Thanksgiving since the 8th grade that I didn't go to Turkey Bowl! I made up for it by hanging out with the ones I love and eating ALOT.

What else...My parents landed safely in the PI. 2 more weeks til the end of the quarter. New snowboarding pants, but haven't been on the mountain. I need to Christmas shop!

P.S. I love taking Allie to the dog park.
P.P.S. Happy Birthday Noel!

The VS fashion show was tonight. Here's a vid from my favorite set and my favorite girl Miranda Kerr.

Fantasy Football is for lovers.

I love this season because of the leaves. Although I don't like the leaves pooping all over my car. My fantasy team is doing well. GO Ronnie Brown :)I'm doing that thing where I anticipate the end of it already. What am I to do when I have no players/teams to read up on? I guess there is always Facebook. Bleh.

Here's a video I've been meaning to post.

Marc got me tickets to Mae for my birthday. They were great as always. Played Summertime, not Tisbury Lane. I want to be a band someday. We went to Jay-Z the day before with Just and Gemma. A typical music filled weekend ;)

almost septemberrrrr

September already? I've barely have birthday plans but I'm sure I'll figure it out in the next week.

I've been in the Dale for 2 days to "rest" after having my wisdom teeth taken out. I think I might go crazy. I haven't left the house once! Further evidence that moving back home is NOT an option. Sorry Al! (I need to brush her teeth. Her breath is stanky.) Thank cod Missy is taking me to lunch tomorrow :) mmmm Chung's!

Sooo Hawaii was awesome! I just hope it was a good first trip for Marc. I'm thankful we had a free place to crash for 10 days. Thanks Ann! More pictures to come!

Soon as my cheeks go down to normal, I'm going to start training for the Seattle 1/2! Excited for something to look forward to again. Speaking of things to look forward to...

+ Kate moves to Queen Anne next week!

+ Noel visits from Italy

+ babysitting Luke & Will

+ 23 on the 23rd!

+ Tin's birthday

+ Cali in October (crossing fingers)

+ Vegas in November? (pending...)

island bound

My poor, poor journal is dying. Literally, rotting away. I need to figure out what I'm going to do about it before its too late. Damn you, apple juice!

Leaving on a jet plane tomorrow and I'm stoked. Even though Felicia (see: tropical storm) is not too far from the coast of the Big Island. I'm not gonna let a little rain get me down. I live in Washington for crying out loud.

TO DO:

+ SURF

+ shrimp trucks of the north

+ stairway to heaven (please please please annabelle!)

+ polynesian culture center (marc's first time)

+ snorkel

+ shark encounter

+ diamond head (I've only done it once and I can't even count it because it was part of the marathon and I didn't get to the top)

+ visit crossfit oahu and hardass crossfit

Hopefully I'll get some sleep tonight. Or at least on the plane! CHEEEEEE HOOOOOO!

ugh this is why i don't like blogging

"What makes two people an official couple? Does the guy seriously HAVE to ask the girl 'will you be my girlfriend?' or 'can we be boyfriend and girlfriend now?' "

Its mid January and a girl had been "dating" (seeing eachother, hanging out with, spending time, talking to...whatever you'd like to call it) this guy for about 8 months. He has yet to call her his girlfriend. They've talked about it before and the answer was the same: "when the time is right." For a long time, it didn't really bother her. Okay. That's a lie. It bothered her more than she liked but for a good reason she thought. Everyone would ask "are you guys official?" "is he your boyfriend?" and she would say "No. Not yet. We're together, though" and that was enough for her because it was just them in the relationship, noone else. It wasn't important to make sure everyone knew she had a label. As the relationship went on, she started to question things.

Whether or not he really wanted to be with me.
Doesn't he want to be my boyfriend?
Am I not good enough to be his girlfriend?
Is this a way to keep from being "tied down" to just one girl?

Sad, but true. She couldn't help it. She wasn't sure what to think. His actions all pointed in all the right directions and it is true actions speak louder than words and labels...but words speak, too. She wanted the label not so she could tell all her friends, but so she could know for herself that he was in. The c word causes a lot of people (especially people who've been wounded by love before) to run for the hills. A little commitment is what she wanted. Granted, she hadn't been close to perfect in those eight months, she still felt like she deserved it. One particular night they were arguing about it and he said "I just want it to be special. I thought because of the hopeless romantic you are, you'd appreciate it more if it was special." After that, she shut up. She felt bad for questioning those things before, not knowing that he had plans all along. She felt foolish because he was right. She would appreciate it even more if it was special because she was in fact, a hopeless romantic.

So she waited. Christmas passed. New Year's Eve passed. She waited a little longer. One night before they went to sleep he asked her "so do you wanna be my girlfriend?" She thought he was kidding. When she realized he wasn't she said "okay" and fell asleep with a brand new set of questions.

I guess he didn't really want to be my boyfriend at that time, did he?
Did he tell me that he wanted it to be special so I would stop talking about it?
I got what I wanted...so why do I feel so disappointed?
Is it wrong that I feel kind of cheated?

What happened to the special moment or when the time was right? Maybe that's what he meant... He built it up so much that she expected one thing, and in the end, didn't really get it. She was confused because she thought he knew it was important to her. Not because she cared about anniversaries or about letting everyone know their status...but because she wanted to feel like she was worth it.

So as for my answer: No. A guy doesn't HAVE to ask a girl to be his girlfriend. BUT he should do what he says he will and maybe clarify intentions. If you both want to be with eachother or are practically already together, what's the problem? Especially if its important to the other person? Quite frankly, it seems like the other person has a hidden agenda. And if that's the case, end it.

Sorry about the rant.

walls

They keep things out. They hide things within.

I think the worst part about them is that when you think you're ready to bring them down and let someone in, there you are. Exposed. Vulnerable. Not really knowing what to expect but hoping for something. Understanding. Acceptance. It's scary to see your walls fall and feel like they aren't giving you those things.

Day 44: GRFS. The last day!

WOD - 150 burpees for time [12:18]
100 burpees for time 9:?? something... compare to 5/7 [11:27]

I was only planning on doing 100 burpees, but since it was the last day for Get Right for Summer I decided to push myself and do 150. I beat my first time by about 2 min so I was happy. Burpees are still tough but I feel like I'm getting better.

So the big question is...did I reach my goals? (tighter abs, toned, victoria's secret angel bod...) Honestly, I feel like my arms had the most improvement which wasn't exactly my target area (abs)...until I really decided I wanted to get my pullups. So even if my belly isn't totally flat, I'm going to continue working on it. I feel like I have more energy most days and can definitely tell when I've had too much sugar or carbs. I also realized how crappy I felt when I didn't workout 2 or more days in a row. These 6 weeks have been a great motivator to continue with the summer and not to mention I got to make new friends and find inspiration (NW quals!) Thanks everybody for support when I needed it the most and helping me say no to sugar! Hope to see everyone at the gym even though our 6-weeks are over :D

P.S. I'm going to continue logging but on word press. I'll leave the random stuff to blogger :P

for my [not] best friend

Just,
You wanted me to tell you everything is going to fine...and it will be. You're not alone because I will walk with you.
Love,
Me
The Thousandth Man

One man in a thousand, Solomon says,
Will stick more close than a brother.
And it's worth while seeking him half your days
If you find him before the other.
Nine hundred and ninety-nine depend
On what the world sees in you,
But the Thousandth man will stand your friend
With the whole round world agin you.

'Tis neither promise nor prayer nor show
Will settle the finding for 'ee.
Nine hundred and ninety-nine of 'em go
By your looks, or your acts, or your glory.
But if he finds you and you find him.
The rest of the world don't matter;
For the Thousandth Man will sink or swim
With you in any water.

You can use his purse with no more talk
Than he uses yours for his spendings,
And laugh and meet in your daily walk
As though there had been no lendings.
Nine hundred and ninety-nine of 'em call
For silver and gold in their dealings;
But the Thousandth Man he's worth 'em all,
Because you can show him your feelings.

His wrong's your wrong, and his right's your right,
In season or out of season.
Stand up and back it in all men's sight-
With that for your only reason!
Nine hundred and ninety-nine can't bide
The shame or mocking or laughter,
But the Thousandth Man will stand by your side
To the gallows-foot --and after!

I tried to work on pullups earlier with Marc at the park (hehe). I need to keep working on my upper body strength...errrgh. I wanna get kipping pullups already! Time to get serious... For the WOD, the left arm push presses were definitely the hardest for me. Even though I hated the 20# I was thankful that I was able to push myself and get through it. Sheens was an animal with the 25#! "Uhh...we should do the 15s..yeah yeah....it'll be better....uhh or the 25 is good too..." haha. Great work out today everybody! It's day 23 so of course it was good!! The new box is sweet. Lots of potential. Congrats Tony & Dru!

365 days later and its still the same story

"...appreciate the friends and loved ones who are really there for you. Be there for them. Believe in the best of people and understand everyone slips. That's what second chances are for. Forgive, but don't let anyone walk all over you. Don't get in the way of yourself. Too many times you've psyched yourself out and felt you couldn't do it anymore. Give all you got and don't expect the same in return. In the end you'll be able to look back and say you tried, you gave everything and that's all that really matters."

"The greatest irony of love: Loving the right person at the wrong time, having the wrong person when the time is right, and finding out you love someone right after that person walks out of your life. And sometimes, you think you're already over a person, but when you see them smile at you, you'll suddenly realize that you're just pretending to be over them just to ease the pain of knowing that they will never be yours again.

For some, they think that letting go is one way of expressing how much you love the person... In my opinion, some are afraid to see the one they love being held by someone else. Most relationships tend to fail not because of the absence of love. Love is always present. It's just that one was being loved too much and the other was being loved too little. As we all know that the heart is the center of the body but it beats on the left. Maybe that's the reason why the heart is not always right. Most often, we fall in love with the person we think we love but to only discover that for them, we are just for past times, while the one who truly loves us remains either a friend or a stranger...

So here's a piece of advice: Let go when you're hurting too much. Give up when love isn't enough, and move on when things are not like before...For sure, there is someone out there who will love you even more."

I ♥ Kenny Vasoli

Person L, semi-new band with lead singer from TSL Kenny Vasoli, is on tour with Mae! (and Barcelona...and some other bands I don't really care about) I've been a fan since my tweeeen days. I mean, who doesn't love 'The Best of Me' and Kenny's funny long hair? Direction was good but I think I still have to give it to Say It Like You Mean It. All the old stuff aside, I think Person L takes it to a new, grown-up level. I have yet to hear Initial all the way through but when I first heard Storms it was like I was coming home. Chill.

Person L "Wooden Soldiers" from Pushing Triggers on Vimeo.

Sad to say, I've been out of the loop with Mae. Singularity is what did it. Sorry guys, it just wasn't all that I hoped for. Seriously, I want to know the process: how did that come after Destination: B-sides or The Everglow?? Mae was my very first show at El Corazon back in Fall 05 (with Mute Math) and I loved them! Hopefully they'll win me back this time...

an old favorite

I'm still super excited! They play in Seattle at Neumos May 13th. I have a physics test the next day and that's the day I have to start dog sitting. What to do, what to do.

WOD - Fight Gone Alright - score: 267

In this workout you move from each of five stations after a minute. This is a five-minute round from which a one-minute break is allowed before repeating. The stations are:

  1. "Chuck-ball", 8lbs thrown as high as you can
  2. Sumo Deadlift High-Pull, 1 16kg kettlebell
  3. Box Jump, 20" - step up and down.
  4. DB Push Press: 15lbs
  5. Burpees

The clock does not reset or stop between exercises. On call of "rotate," the athlete/s must move to next station immediately for good score. One point is given for each rep, except on the rower where each calorie is one point.

I wasn't planning on doing the workout because I just got off work, but Marc had an extra pair of sweats. I was ok in flip flops because we didn't do any running but the box jumps were a little slippery. A big thanks to Andrew Valle for being the best cheerleader ever. Next time I do a park work out I'm going to motivate like him!

Not as sore as I thought I was going to be from yesterday. I felt like a guilty catholic girl while I ate my fries. I'm not gonna lie though, they were HELLA good.

Sore today (and not to mention sunburnt in a weird way). Today wasn't my best meal day either seeing as I only ate 2 full meals. I had a physics lab and a 7 hour work day (see: I hate lazy co workers). I think I'm feeling the withdraw from sugar because when I saw a white board eraser, I thought it was a big brownie. *facepalm*. Ready for harder work tomorrow!

Little Bit by More Amor

Do I say a little bit?
hey im a little bit, id fall into you
on my face a little bit
stay just a little bit
ill be it for you
as I say a little bit, im alive just a little bit...more

in due time ill follow where you go
until then i oblige
please go do everything
when you feel like the world has become too small
may i remind, im right back where we were

do i say a little bit?
hey im a little bit, id fall into you
on my face a little bit
stay just a little bit
i will prove to you
(whatever that might do)

this summer, its coming
i feel it, the beach in the morning
I watch the planes fly overhead
the sun melts off waters edge
the tide is perfect to wrap up you and me.

id i say a little bit?
hey i'm a little bit...
on my face a little bit
stay just a little bit
ill be it for you

Here comes the sun do do do do

Needed a laugh

Things have been kinda rough recently. Just trying to be Miss Brightside without being Miss Naive or Miss In Denial. I found one of my favorite episodes of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Last time I saw this was with Ann. Those were the days. Enjoy.

------------------------------------------------------

& because I just can't help myself...

I tried to be nice and leave it alone. To give you the benefit of the doubt. I really don't want to play this game, but I'll take it into consideration if it means putting you in your place. Watch your mouth.

straight.up.now.tell.me

I'd like to think I'm an approachable person. I don't always say what I'm thinking but if something is really bothering me, I'll most likely tell you. I try not to expect too much because with my luck (for lack of a better term), things rarely turn out how I want them to...which is okay. It's not my plan, its about God's plan, right? Right.

That's a semi sugar coated me in a nutshell.

"..bravery and loyalty were second to none."

More than half a century later, Filipino soldiers who fought alongside US troops in World War II are getting compensated. $15,000 to those who are citizens now, $9,000 for those who aren't. Not that money is going to make up for what they went through during and after the war but at least they are finally getting something. Imagine risking your life for a foreign country just to be ignored for 60 years? No health benefits for you or your family. No G.I. bill. Nothing except for discrimination because of the color of their skin.

A couple years ago, I went to a local memorial at Bataan Park in Bremerton to remember those who had fallen during the battle of Bataan, Filipino and Japanese soldiers alike. Among a handful of veterans present were wives and families of soldiers. Its nice to think that the ones I met who still have their uniforms and pride are getting some thanks in return.

President Truman said, "The record of the Philippine soldiers for bravery and loyalty were second to none." Although this is coming from the idiot who ultimately denied them all military benefits, the statement is true.

I suck at blogging.

So I started writing about my President's Day weekend...then stopped? I don't know I wrote in my journal instead but even that is incomplete. This was seriously an awesome weekend (not perfect obvioiusly but close enough in my book and I refuse to let the festivities go unrecorded. Fortunately, I'm a good list maker.

2.12 | the twelfth night
- Not really anything to say about today... just four years seems forever ago and that "it was real and it was great. and it was really great." Name that movie.

2.13 | Friday the 13th
- Creeeeepy. No scary movie for me though. Just rest up for tomorrow!

2.14 | Valentines day
- Blueberry pancakes for breakfast!
- Old friends, new friends, recycled friends?
- Toe side practice...check.
- Hit by the lift...check. Ow.
- Beer break. BTW, if you go to Steven's, don't get the nachos!! They're nasty, stale, and old.
- A great full day on the mountain complete with good friends...who all happened to be coupled except Hoai and Julius. Well, I guess you could say they were a couple. A couple of poopheads. Yes, poopheads.
- Got to Marc's at 10 or so and knocked out.

2.15 | Things never work out for me!!
- Wake up for church at St. Iggy's
- Get to SU and discover they don't hold 9 am mass anymore
- Sit in to watch Barrio practice. "So you guys are going to Saltys?" Face palm to forehead.
- Salty's for all you can eat seafood brunch!
- Food coma
- Bj's birthday party complete with a little surprise on his couch

2.16 | President's Day
- Took a walk with Marc around Greenlake
- Trying to name all the U.S. presidents...he beat me but we only got about 15 altogether :(

death by physics

All I gotta say is I'm glad this week is FINALLY over. 4 hours of physics, a midterm, a quiz then 2 more hours of A&P lab is not at all fun. So I decided to be bad...and not work today. I think Vicki's can survive without me for a day...

looking forward to:

- stevens on vday!
- sleeping in
- canadia sunday?
- barrio fiesta!

I'm so full! Went to 2 happy hours today. Yum! Stanfords with the sister (got my mac & cheese fix) then late night at Wasabi with the manfriend. Seattle tempura roll = satifaction guaranteed.

I was thinking about writing a long post tonight but decided I'd rather write in my journal...maybe online blogging isn't my thing after all. Goodnight friends!

I wish things were more clear.

That the gray would slink away and I could see what was there.

But it is what it is.

No expectations.

today is a new day

- in the Oval Office -

- the lame duck's letter to the pres -

President Obama's first day on the new job is today and I wonder how he's feeling. Does he already know how the routine goes? Is he nervous? Does he get a lunch break whenever he wants? What does he have for lunch? How does he like his coffee? New jobs can be a little intimidating but at least he knows he has more than 1 million people in DC to help out. :) There's quite the debate over what he should do first and I say bring em home! Now that the election is over and he's officially in, I believe its important to stick with "yes we CAN" as opposed to "yes we DID." George left us a big mess to clean up (shakes fist) and there's no time to waste. The first 100 are crucial and some will want to see him stumble but you gotta have faith!

Congrats Mr. President!

future conquests

With the start of a new quarter, the search of the light at the end of the tunnel, aka SPRING BREAK destinations, has begun.

CALI - I promised Gumi I would visit before she graduated. I'm determined not to break it but I'm running out of time. Besides, I gotta meet this dude that has her on cloud 9. Cons: It's California. Typical. Pros: Meggie's cooking :P

CHI-TOWN - If Kate lived in South Dakota or a more boring equivalent (sorry, South Dakotans) I'm sure it'd be fun. This girl always surprises, never disappoints. Cons: The tickets were a little steep AND I heard it get so windy sometimes the have ropes to hold onto around campus to help you get to class. Pros: I'm a Chi-town virgin and I would love for Kate to respectfully take my V card.

VEGAS - with Ann & friends. I'm not sure if this is a done deal, but who can resist a city that allows you to carry a 6-pack in one hand, a yard margarita in another and dudes that tame white tigers? Cons: Don't get me wrong, I love gay bars but gay bars in VEGAS?... Pros: Bonding time with the sister...aka your typical shit show just with live animals.

HI - Beach. Waves. Tropical island. Even though I've been more than a couple times, there are still things that I haven't done that I want to do. Turtle Bay, Diamond Head (NOT having to run up and down it), fishing, Oahu Crossfit, Koko Head, etc. Cons: It's Hawaii. Can we say de ja vu? Pros: It's Hawaii.

It's all tentative. At least, I have a couple relatively cheap options. Too bad M's Spring Training in AZ is most likely out of question. Contemplating all these destinations got me looking even farther in the future to summer activities...

Rock 'n' Roll marathons have been taking place across the country but the first one in Seattle is in June. There will be live bands at every mile! I won't even have to run with headphones. The course isn't finalized yet but it starts in Tukwila so I'm assuming you don't have to retrace any part of the course. I gotta improve my HI time!

www.rnrseattle.com

I was also thinking about doing a triathlon...there's one in July but I think I'm most likely going to do the Rock 'n' Roll. I don't know if my body will be too happy with me but who knows? Maybe if I actually stick to my New Year's resolution I'll be ready.

Crap. It's 2:22am. Shower time!

This cover has been stuck in my head. I heart hellogoodbye!

things have changed for me

Merry Christmas...and a Happy New Year, you filthy animal!

2008 is gone and good riddance. I'm ready to start fresh. Not that 2008 was a bad year, interesting to say the least. Biggest lesson learned: Never settle for less. That and don't speed cause the 5-0 will get ya.

I didn't say to much about Christmas but I will say it was wonderful.

26.2 pt II

Not gonna lie, but I was a little inebriated that last blog...what can ya do? So (almost a month later :P) I'm going to give thanks and relive my crazy Hawaiian adventure in detail.

Arrive at HI - 3 days til the race

I didn't really know what to expect but I didn't expect RAIN. I mean, really? I left the pacific northwest for Hawaiian sunshine. First run with the sisters = killer. It was barely 4 miles but I felt like I was eating the air. This was the day I started contemplating different excuses I could use to get me out of the race... yeah, I know. The highlight of the day: no cockroach sightings!

2 days til the race

Expo time. Picked up our numbers and goody bags. I would call them alright-I-guess bags. Trying to relax...but today's run was harsh. Only about 10 miles starting from Ala Moana, up around Diamond Head and back. I took three showers: one actual shower, one in the rain, one in sweat. Well, I guess you could say four counting the one I took after. My first experience with Diamond Head and it was not pleasant at all. Grandmas were passing me. Not to mention people who looked like they might as well be strolling on the beach instead of nearly crawling up the ginormous rock as I was. I guess it kinda helped when a couple of lifeguards passed us. Well, they didn't help Ann. Haha. One word from Gemma: leverage. WOW.

Day before the race

Freaking out. Ran Hawaii Kai loop. About 2.5 miles and was winded. The air is thicker than thick there. REALLY freaking out. Gem left her ipod on the trunk of Ann's car, Jamba Juice wheat grass shots and oj chasers, torrential rains, hunt for ponchos, endurance powder and the sweetest running mix.

RACE DAY

I think I only got 5 hours of sleep the night before. I added last minute songs, stretched, peed and we were on our way. Ponchos and all. Get to Ala Moana to find the largest group of Japanese people I've ever seen. Probably the largest crowd I've ever been in...that I can remember anyway. Fireworks went off at 5 am sharp to start us out. It was so pretty...

- Poured the first 3 miles
- Ran through the city lights. so many people stopped to take pictures
- Steady pace til about mile 8...the Diamond Head incline. Reached the top by sunrise, thank God.
- 13.1. Half way there! Feeling alive, feeling a little pain, feeling good. Sponges are my friend.
- Mile 17. Sun is up. We are ready to come down. I forever hate the Kahala highway..
- Mile 20. Walking. Knee is almost out of gas.
- Mile 24. Why the hell would they make us run up that stupid rock at the end of this crap? PAIN.
- Finish line in sight. VIVE LA VIDA!

yours truly
6:22:19

I can't believe it! I was never so happy to sit down. Sometimes now I almost forget that I ran it. Like it was a dream. Next time I'm gonna kill this time. Hopefully! We all walked away with small aches but nothing serious. I just couldn't walk normally for about a week and Ann's toenail turned black. (It's still black and still attached to her toe which is pretty amazing.) Gem went on a 1000 step hike 2 days later. I'm really proud of them. We all then went to a lesbian bar and got rip roaring drunk. I had a great time and will remember it for the rest of my life.
